Medical Assistant Program 

The Medical Assistant Program is in the process of transitioning to a Certificate in Applied Science: Medical Assistant award. Admission to this program is pending approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

Medical Assistants are health care professionals who are cross-trained to work in all areas of a physician's office or other ambulatory care setting. This includes the front office, the clinical area assisting with patients and in the laboratory.

Medical Assisting is projected by the Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics to be one of the fastest growing careers in health care:

"Employment of medical assistants is expected to grow 23% from 2014-2024."

Graduates of the Medical Assisting program at Greenville Technical College have employment opportunities in physicians' offices, health maintenance organizations (HMOs), health departments, and hospital clinics.

Highlights from the 2016 Annual Report to the Medical Assistant Educational Review Board indicate that

Graduates of the Medical Assisting program are extremely satisfied with the education that they receive; there is an average 99% graduate satisfaction and a 100% employer satisfaction over the last five years. Job placement for graduates for the same five-year reporting period is 77%.

Since 2013, 94% of our graduates passed their American Association of Medical Assistant certification exam - far surpassing the national average.

Graduates of our CAAHEP accredited program are eligible to take the National Certification Examination given by the American Association of Medical Assistants.

The value of the CMA credential is recognized by employers across the country. CMA skills are in demand in a wide range of health care delivery settings, and the credential is valid wherever the CMA goes.
