Electronics Engineering Technology

Graduates are prepared to work as electrical or electronic technicians with power companies, manufacturing, and the computer and service industries.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN IN THE PROGRAM

Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) students will learn to

• Develop, troubleshoot, maintain, program, test, calibrate, document, design, construct, and install electronic systems in a professional manner.
• Utilize computers to analyze electrical and electronic circuits, search for and secure specifications for electrical devices from the internet, draw schematics, manipulate lab data, program logic controllers, develop interface boards, and execute other engineering applications.
• Perform electronics measurements with instruments to install, test, calibrate, and troubleshoot electronic equipment.
• Comprehend analog, digital, and microprocessor circuits.
• Use oral and written communication skills to prepare effective technical communications and follow procedures to relay critical information.
• Interpret schematic diagrams, select components, and build electronic circuits.
• Apply general safety rules in the laboratory/working environment.

Michelin Tech Scholars 

Michelin North America offers opportunities for select students to develop hands-on work experience while earning their degree. Michelin Tech Scholars receive scholarships to cover the cost of tuition, fees and books for the program along with competitive pay for part-time work in a Michelin manufacturing facility.

The associate in applied science degree offered through the Electronics Engineering Technology program at Greenville Technical College is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org. This accreditation gives associate degree programs quality certification and recognition on a national basis. In order to achieve accreditation, the programs must have established a continuous quality improvement process that is documented and must be working to make the programs better for each of the stakeholders involved. For the Engineering Technology programs, the stakeholders are prospective students, current students, faculty, graduates, employers, and college administration. Each one of these parties has a keen interest in promoting the improved quality and outcomes of the program.

Greenville Technical College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate and baccalaureate degrees. Degree-granting institutions also may offer credentials such as certificates and diplomas at approved degree levels.

Graduates may continue their education at a college offering BS EET degree or go to institutions offering Bachelor of Engineering Technology programs, such as the Bachelor of Science in Engineering Management at USC Upstate or the Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Technology at SC State University (available at the University Center of Greenville).

Students interested in transferring should take University Transfer courses and meet with an advisor for assistance.

The Electronics Engineering Technology program will equip graduates to use their training and education to provide engineering and technological support to local industry and manufacturing while encouraging them to stay at the cutting edge of changing technologies through continued life-long learning. 

EET Program Objectives

1. Graduates of the EET program at Greenville Technical College will achieve employment in their field of study or continue their education.
2. EET graduates will be competent practitioners of their profession such that they can meet or exceed the performance expectations of their employers.
3. EET graduates will be equipped to adapt to updates in Electronic s and Electrical technology by a commitment to both professional ethics and life-long learning.

EET Student Learning Outcomes

1. TROUBLESHOOTING: While recognizing safety hazards and following company procedures, students will be able to determine the root cause of the system malfunction and repair the problem in between electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
2. COMPUTER SKILLS: Students will be able to demonstrate an ability to utilize computers in basic CAD design, microcontroller programming, circuit simulation, and Programmable Logic Controllers. Also the use of productivity tools such as Microsoft Office applications. 
3. CONSTRUCTION CIRCUIT BOARDS: Students will be able to apply proper analytical procedures and the use of appropriate techniques to make measurements, operate testing instruments, examine test results, and assemble electronic systems.
4. RESEARCHING, DESIGNING, AND DEVELOPING: Students will be able to perform mathematical simulations and produce a prototype of the working model for evaluation.
5. DOCUMENTATION: Students will be able to perform the needed actions to accurately analyze procedures, create a list of needed material and produce precise schematic diagram.
