GET INVOLVED
The Alumni Council plans and coordinates the operation of the Greenville Tech Alumni Association, including the social and fundraising activities. Joining the Alumni Council is a great way to volunteer, meet new or old friends, and strengthen your relationship with Greenville Tech.
Alumni Council members attend quarterly Council planning meetings and committee meetings as scheduled, are members in good standing of the Association, and support Association activities. The Alumni Council welcomes new ideas and suggestions from all members and encourages discussion at its meetings. Meetings are usually held in the early evening, often including a meal, to allow for members to attend immediately after their work day.
All alumni and GTAA Friends who are not members of the Alumni Council are invited to serve with limited responsibilities on the Council planning committees (see below).
ALUMNI COUNCIL AREAS OF FOCUS
Golf Tournament
No knowledge of golf is required to serve on this committee.
The annual Alumni Golf Tournament is the primary source of funds for the Alumni Association. Proceeds from each event support endowed scholarship funds and alumni activities. Fifteen one-year scholarships of $2,000 each were awarded for 2007-2008 bringing the total scholarships over the years to sixty-six awarded to Tech students.
Plans, organizes, and conducts an annual golf tournament (the 19th tournament will be on April 11, 2008). Committee members plan the when, where, how, and how much; obtain sponsorships and prizes from community businesses; publicize the event through a variety of methods, and recruit players and volunteers to participate. Most tournament golfers play on business-sponsored teams. Committee members are encouraged to volunteer at the tournament as available.
Meetings, scheduled as needed, begin in August and continue through April, primarily September – mid-November and February - March.
Public Relations
Promotes the Alumni Association in our community with the goal of connecting alumni with the Tech and with other alumni. The committee arranges special events in the upstate, such as attending sporting and entertainment events; plans department and/or program reunions and receptions; is a presence at the college graduation, and uses a variety of media in its efforts.
Meetings begin in August and continue through the year, scheduled as needed.
Membership and Nominating Committee
Actively recruits graduates of Greenville Tech to join the Alumni Association by working with the Public Relations Committee. In addition, encourages members of the Alumni Association to serve on the Alumni Council. The committee prepares a slate of officers and candidate members for Alumni Council consideration each year.
Meetings will be in Feb-April (1-2 meetings).
By-Laws Committee
Insures the by-laws of the Alumni Association are updated and in order by reviewing on an annual basis. Committee suggests changes that will positively affect the operation and growth of the Association. In addition, the committee insures that the Association By-Laws are followed in all Alumni Association activities.
Committee meets 1-2 times each year.
