The Information Center is the first initial contact for most students. We are responsible for manning the front desk of the Admissions/Registration Center (ARC) at McAlister Square, 225 South Pleasantburg Drive. Our office is responsible for entering all prospective students’ information into Datatel and making sure that the requested information is mailed out.
The Information Center handles the day to day operation of the front desk area of the ARC. We greet students as they first come through the doors. We are able to give out information materials and direct students to any office that they may need. Most of the time, we have to question a student to determine which office is best suited to handle their particular situation. When a student comes in to fill out an application, we make sure that they are given a clipboard with an application and a number in order to see an admissions representative. When a student stops at the Information Center to see Advising we check their file in Datatel to make sure that they are “Moved to Student” status before we direct them to the office.
Our office must stay current on all special events taking place in the ARC and on the main campus so that we can direct student to the correct area. We are responsible for keeping the cabinets and racks in the lobby of the ARC fully stocked.
Our office is responsible for answering the much advertised 250-8111 telephone line. We handle all calls from simple transfers to in depth questions about numerous programs. We must have a great deal of knowledge on the curriculum and Continuing Education/Buck Mickel in order to properly direct students calls. Through the Information Center telephone line, we receive a great number of requests for our materials to be mailed out. We also handle the return mail addressed from Greenville Technical College.
The Information Center handles entering all prospective students’ information into the Datatel database and mailing. We also enter the information into an Excel spreadsheet. From that spreadsheet, we are able to sort the information by program and send each department head a list of the students that are interested that particular program each week. We also answer all emails and information requests that come from the Greenville Tech website. Those emails are answered to the student directly and in a timely matter.
The Information Center also orders and disburses promotional items. We also handle all requests for materials stored in the Marketing Materials Mail room located in ARC room 39 and make sure all materials are up to date and fully stocked. We serve as back up to the Materials Mail room when needed.
We must keep a number of statistical reports, such as the monthly Marketing/Recruiting Report, monthly Status Reports and Prospects List.
