Anonymous donor honors the work of Paralegal Department Head at Greenville Tech

An anonymous donor recently made a generous gift to an existing paralegal scholarship fund with a request that the fund be renamed to honor the commitment and dedication of Paralegal Department Head Elizabeth Mann.

The Elizabeth Mann Paralegal Endowed Scholarship Fund, now totaling $17,000, is used to aid paralegal students.

The fund was established in 1983 by attorneys Adam Fisher, James C. Moseley, Larry K. Wood, and Judge Billy Wilkins, who were active with the program’s advisory committee. Members of the current advisory committee voted in January to approve renaming the fund based on the donor’s request.

Elizabeth Mann, who earned a bachelor’s degree from Winthrop University and a J.D. from University of South Carolina School of Law, joined the faculty at Greenville Tech in 1990 and has been selected Division Teacher of the Year twice since that time. Three years ago, she was named Department Head for Greenville Tech’s Paralegal program. Under her leadership, the program has become competency-based, giving every student an opportunity to create a valuable work portfolio by graduation, and she has helped the program to maintain American Bar Association approval.

The Paralegal program offers four options. One is a five-semester associate degree. Forty percent of the program’s students are enrolled in a second option, a one-year track for those with a bachelor’s degree. Those post-BA students also have the choice of a certificate with a specific area of study, either business or litigation.
