Firefighter rivalry heats up


(GREENVILLE, SC) –Greenville Tech’s annual Brashierfest and its firefighters’ competition won’t take place until May 3, but the rivalry among area fire departments lasts all year.

Following last year’s competition, firefighters from Donaldson Center Fire Department noticed that their 2007 plaque had disappeared. Eventually, it turned up, in the hands of the team from South Greenville. The plaque and its bragging rights were eventually returned.

The 2008 Brashierfest will allow South Greenville, Donaldson, and other area fire
departments to battle it out in events including the Bucket Brigade, Ladder Throw, and Dress-Out Race.  The event is designed to show appreciation to fire departments that have supported development of Greenville Tech’s firefighter training program, the only program of its kind at a South Carolina college.

The fourth annual Brashierfest will begin at 9 a.m. on May 3 and last until 2 p.m., bringing a kids-area with an inflatable slide and a fire safety house. Community partners including the Army National Guard and the Highway Patrol will present information and assist with the event.
