PTK Chapter receives regional awards
(GREENVILLE, SC) The Alpha Zeta Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Greenville Technical College received several awards at the Carolinas Region Hallmark Awards Convention in Clemmons, North Carolina.
The chapter was awarded the “Most Distinguished Chapter” distinction. This is the highest honor given to any chapter within the region, and is a first for Greenville Tech’s chapter, chartered over 20 years ago.
Additional awards included: Distinguished Chapter Member – Mary Hall; Hall of Honor – Mary Hall; Distinguished Chapter Officer – Lauren Rogers; Hall of Honors – Lauren Rogers; Paragon Advisor – Dianne Chidester; Paragon Advisor – Michael Vargo; Bruce Rallis Service; Best Use of the Honors Study Topic; 5-Star; SuperStar; Carolinas Regions 4 Clover Challenge; Yearbook; and Host Chapter.
Traci Trouton-Burr, Alpha Zeta Sigma Chapter President, was elected 2008-09 Carolinas Regional President.
Phi Theta Kappa, the International Honor Society of the Two-Year College, has recognized academic excellence in the two-year college since 1918. The Society is comprised of more than 1,200 chapters at community, technical and junior colleges in all 50 of the United States, in Canada, Germany, U.S. Territories, the Republic of Palau and the British Virgin Islands, making it the largest and most prestigious honor society serving two-year colleges. Membership is based primarily upon academic achievement. The organization offers a myriad of opportunities for scholarships, intellectual enrichment and personal development through programs based on the Society's Hallmarks.
