Greenville Tech partners with Horry-Georgetown Tech to train automotive technicians
Greenville Technical College and Horry-Georgetown Technical College are launching a new program to supply skilled automotive technicians to dealerships in the lower part of the state.
Horry-Georgetown had an automotive program a decade ago, but when technology outpaced the college’s ability to keep up, the program was disbanded.
Greenville Tech will now work with Horry-Georgetown to offer a series of certificates at the Conway-based college. Students can go immediately to work using the skills they’ve obtained, or they can transfer to Greenville Tech to complete an associate degree.
Greenville Tech’s automotive programs, housed in the McKinney Regional Automotive Technology Center, enroll nearly 600 students. It is expected that the Horry-Georgetown program will enroll about 20 college students for Fall Semester and 50 high school students. The program will work with Horry County Schools, using its automotive technology training facility in Conway, and allowing high school students to earn both high school and college credit.
