Greenville Tech students place in national SkillsUSA competition
Several Greenville Tech students received honors in the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference held in Kansas City in June.
Donnie Qualls, captured fifth place in the aviation category. In the Building/Construction competition, the team of Chris Powers, Jose Rivera, Brian Stevens, and William Harris placed eleventh overall in the team build category, while Buck Lowman came in eighth place in individual carpenter, and Jeremiah Owens placed fifth in plumbing. Josh Lindley was 27th in the nation in HVAC Tech. In the Machine Tool Technology area, William Yeargins placed 17th in precision machining, Gary Webb captured fifth place in CNC turning, and Lloyd Collins was seventh in CNC milling. Addison Greenway placed tenth in the welding competition. Hunter Schultz was third in the nation in the auto body competition.
SkillsUSA is a national, non-profit organization serving more than 280,000 high school and college students and professional members enrolled in training programs in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. SkillsUSA programs include local, state and national competitions in which students demonstrate occupational and leadership skills. During the annual national-level SkillsUSA championships, more than 4,600 students compete in 80 occupational and leadership skill areas. SkillsUSA programs also help to establish industry standards for job skill training in the classroom.
