Tony Trout helps Greenville Tech police force acquire bulletproof vests
(GREENVILLE, SC) –Greenville County Councilman Tony Trout has helped Greenville Tech’s police force acquire bulletproof vests. Using discretionary funds available to council
members, Trout purchased ten Point Blank Body Armor vests, a gift valued at $5,000.
Trout has been involved in law enforcement throughout his career. He served as a police officer for 13 years before establishing Pro-Tech Security Services in 1991. Now in his third year on county council, Trout is interested in helping area colleges and universities deal with today’s security challenges. “Due to a recent increase in incidents on college campuses, I’m trying to offer these institutions all the protection I can,” he said. “I hope to expand my efforts to include both Furman University and Bob Jones University.”
Dr. Thomas E. Barton, president of Greenville Tech, said Greenville Tech’s security picture has changed with the addition of student apartments on the Barton Campus, making safety more critical than ever. “We’re really getting state-of-the-art with our police force,” he said. “Anytime you have 500 students living on campus, it’s a different ball game. Safety is number one for us.”
