Information Literacy Instruction

  • Without Information Literacy Instruction, many students have only a limited understanding of research and/or resource possibilities. Information Literacy Instruction is designed to help students acquire skills, competencies, and confidence needed to become effective users and producers of information.
  • Instruction can be custom designed to meet the needs of specific courses and research assignments.
  • Instruction at the Barton Campus is held in the Technical Resource Center (Bldg 102) in room TR 152 near Computer Valley.   This service is also available at all branch campuses.

Please submit request at least two weeks prior to scheduled date. To schedule a class complete a request form or contact the Library at (864) 250-8321 for information.

Collection Development

Faculty and staff are invited to be participating members in developing the collection by providing curriculum & instructional materials.

Yearly review of specific program areas which includes selection of new materials and the deselection of old, outdated materials is critical to maintaining a viable, useful collection. Faculty requests for material are given highest priority. Requests are submitted through early Spring Semester. Purchases are reviewed and approved as long as money is available. Specific program site/accreditation agency visits purchases should be communicated early so items may be purchased & processed for the collection before actual visit is scheduled. Library Director works directly with faculty department heads to ensure items needed are purchased. The library refrains from purchasing textbooks but may add if donated to the collection. Students are encouraged to recommend materials for purchase by the library.
