EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY

College Catalog Information
Emergency Medical Technology Associate Degree
EMT-Paramedic Certificate
Post Initial Paramedic Training

The college that works for taking your
skills to the next level.

You know who you are. The thought of sitting behind a desk for the rest of your life scares you. If a fast-paced, exciting, and rewarding career is what you’re looking for, the Emergency Medical Technology Program at Greenville Tech has the training you need.

Greenville Technical College has had an Associate Degree in paramedic training for more than 20 years. This level of training can give you an edge over other job applicants, help you earn up to 20 percent more, and help you advance on the job faster.

We offer three levels of training — Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Paramedic — and you can enter the program at the level you need.

The Basic EMT program covers the fundamentals of medical care — CPR, advanced airway management, bleeding control, fractures, shock treatment, childbirth, patient handling, extrications and more.

At the Intermediate level, you’ll learn advanced assessment, treatment of shock, IV therapy, and principles of medical and traumatic emergencies.

Advanced EMT-Paramedic students cover ECG interpretation, cardiac and respiratory emergencies, medical and traumatic conditions, pediatrics and pharmacology.

EMT working on a patientLabs are an important part of the EMT curriculum. We cover a wide range of emergency situations in realistic labs. By the end of your first semester, you’re out on the ambulance with experienced paramedics. Your internship draws only on the skills you’ve mastered, and you assist with the basics. Later on, you’re able to function as a member of a highly trained team.

You’ll complete 180 hours of clinical training at local hospitals, working with patients under the supervision of an instructor with extensive experience in emergency care and nursing. You’ll gain further real-world experience with the local EMS services by completing a minimum of 405 hours of field internship.

The paramedic training program at Greenville Technical College is one of the few Paramedic training sites nation-wide that has its’ own METI (Sarasota, FL) Human Patient Simulator (HPS) mannequins. Any skill taught can be performed on the HPS. The HPS also responds to these treatments just as a human would thereby allowing our students to experience many of the situations they may encounter in the field.

The end result of this classroom instruction, lab experience, internships, and opportunities for service is a graduate who is fully prepared for the workplace.

ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support
PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support
ITLS – Basic Trauma Life Support
AMLS – Advanced Medical Life Support
EMT – Basic Refresher courses
EMT - I Refresher courses
Paramedic Refresher courses
Critical Care Paramedic courses

Certified EMTs now have a new opportunity to increase their professional knowledge and begin working sooner. Because of the nation-wide paramedic shortage, Greenville Tech developed this program to address industry demands by allowing students to complete a Paramedic Certificate in three semesters instead of five. This is the only program of its kind in Upstate South Carolina, and students who begin actively working for an EMS service can complete the remaining degree requirements through traditional or distance-education courses. The courses will also apply to the Emergency Medical Technician Associate Degree.

If you think this exciting career is right for you, consider the EMT/Paramedic Program at Greenville Tech. For information, call 250-8111 or toll-free in South Carolina, 1-800-922-1183.

The college offers monthly Career Talk session which offer prospective students the opportunity to speak one-on-one with faculty. Plan to join us to learn more about our EMT-Paramedic program, or about any one of the Health Sciences and Nursing programs at Greenville Tech.
