Physical therapy is a health profession that involves direct care of individuals who experience temporary or permanent disability due to pain, injury, disease or birth defects. Working under the supervision of a physical therapist, the physical therapist assistant helps people improve their mobility and level of function through the use of exercise, manual therapy and assistive technologies. Job opportunities may be found in hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, outpatient offices, sports medicine clinics, schools and home health agencies.
The Physical Therapist Assistant curriculum consists of academic courses as well as 16 total weeks of full-time clinical affiliations.
