Financial aid packages, composed of grants,
scholarships, loans and work study, can allow
students with limited financial resources to
pursue their educational goals at Greenville
Technical College.  Individuals enrolled in or
accepted at the college who demonstrate a
financial need or desire scholarship
consideration must apply to begin the financial
aid process.  Completion of a Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the first step in
the process. You must complete the FAFSA
online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Important tips for FAFSA

Be sure to insert Greenville Technical College's

school code – 003991 on the FAFSA so the
results will be sent to our database.

The FAFSA should be completed as early as six months prior to the academic semester for which aid is requested.  Determination of eligibility through needs analysis must be completed before aid is awarded.  Financial aid brochures, information about financial aid programs and qualifications can be obtained by calling the college’s Information Center (864) 250-8111 or the Financial Aid Office (864) 250-8128.

How do I apply for Financial Aid?
The first step in the process is the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA ). Complete the FAFSA and submit it via the web www.fafsa.ed.gov . NOTE: Online FAFSA applications require the use of a PIN issued from the Department of Education (for student and parent) or you can mail the signature page printed from the online application process. You can apply for the PIN online at www.pin.ed.gov.

What's next after I do the FAFSA?
These generally are the steps you can expect after completing and submitting the FAFSA.

  • You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Central Processing Center
in 2-8 weeks (depending on the time of year it's submitted). Review it carefully. Do NOT bring in this form, unless there is a problem – keep it for your records. (The college receives the same data.)
  • You will receive a letter from Greenville Tech's Financial Aid Office after you have received your SAR. If more information is needed, we will tell you exactly what is required and what to do. Follow the instructions carefully and as soon as possible. We cannot take any further steps to process your aid, until you do.
Visit the Financial Aid Office if you have questions about the requested information on the letter, or if you do not receive this letter after you have your SAR (Student Aid Report).
  • After we receive all documents, we submit any necessary changes to the Department of Education. This step can take an additional two to three weeks before all information is verified and submitted. Occasionally, the Department of Education will require more information after a change is made, and you'll be notified, as will we. All requests made by the Department of Education are required to be verified and submitted before your file can be completed and awards determined.
  • After all above steps are completed, you will receive an Award Letter from the Financial Aid Office. When you receive the Award Letter, review it carefully along with any required certifications and enclosures. NOTE: Only originals will be accepted. All documents must be signed and returned to the Financial Aid Office, located in Room 100 in the ARC at McAlister Square or by mail to PO Box 5616, Greenville, SC 29606. Keep the copy of the award letter stamped “student copy”. If you have questions, please contact the Financial Aid Office at 250-8128 or visit our office.
  • Any amount of your award remaining after tuition and fees have been deducted, can be used to purchase books and supplies at the Greenville Tech Bookstore during specified dates at the beginning of each semester. Note: Lottery Tuition Assistance does not cover books.
  • Excess funds (amount of your aid that is left after tuition, fees, books, and supplies have been deducted), are mailed after the fourth week from the beginning of the semester. Disbursement of federal loans for first-time students requires a 30-day delay after classes begin. Contact a Loan Officer if you have questions regarding mid-point disbursements for loans. All checks will be mailed from the Business Office. Checks will not be held in Financial Aid. Please be sure we have your correct, complete address! Address changes must be made at the Admissions Office. If you do not receive the check for any reason, two weeks must pass before the Business Office can re-issue another check.

How do I make a correction after I get my SAR?
Students can make corrections after receiving the Student Aid Report (SAR) three ways:

  • Make changes on SAR and mail back to Department of Education
  • Go on-line www.fafsa.ed.gov with your PIN, make changes, and submit.
  • Visit the Financial Aid Office, and speak with a Financial Aid Officer.

The total cost of attending college includes tuition, fees, books, supplies, other required materials, personal and living expenses, and allowable travel expenses. A student's computed financial need is the total cost of attending college minus the amount his or her family is expected to contribute. The expected family contribution (EFC) is what is used to determine type and amount of Financial Aid students qualify for.

What type of Financial Aid is available?
Financial aid is money that is given, earned, or lent to help students pay for their education. Most financial aid is provided by the government and the college. Almost all financial aid is awarded in the form of a package. Financial aid packages can be composed of grants, scholarships, federal loans and work study programs. Aid can assist students with limited financial resources to pursue their goals by studying at Greenville Tech. Individuals enrolled in or accepted at the college and who demonstrate a financial need or desire scholarship consideration must submit a free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The following describes various
types of financial aid
and requirements for each program.
