8-3-2015: Sally and Pete Potosky Fund Endowed Scholarship

Sally and Pete Potosky have pledged $20,000 to establish an endowed scholarship through the Greenville Tech Foundation that honors the late James Curtis Harkness, once a vice president at the college and an advocate of supporting student needs.

The Potoskys first encountered Harkness in 2006 when they sought an additional venue for Greenville Chautauqua, an annual educational, interactive event that brings history to life. Harkness was supportive of their efforts, and Greenville Technical College has been one of the venues since that time. Harkness never missed Chautauqua, and the couple got to know him, especially admiring the way he would dip into his own pocket to support student needs if he couldn’t find funding.

The Sally and Pete Potosky Endowed Fund will be used to support Greenville Technical College students experiencing critical financial needs for textbooks, supplies, fees, licensures, transportation, and other college-approved needs.

“Through their gift, the Potoskys will continue the legacy of caring for others that Curtis Harkness established in his life and career,” said Dr. Keith Miller, president of Greenville Technical College. “We are grateful to this couple for finding a way to help our students and the community.”

The Greenville Tech Foundation was established to ensure that the college is able to provide a quality college education at modest costs and to reduce financial barriers to higher education. For more information or to make a donation, go to www.greenvilletechfoundation.org.
