Projections
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects 2006-2016 growth in the Paralegal career field at 22%, much faster than the average for all occupations. The career field has grown at a faster rate than average for decades, and this trend continues but at a slower rate as more and more paralegals have entered the work force. The field is still one of the top fields of those emphasizing verbal skills.

Educational Requirements
The BLS lists the associate degree as the most significant source of education or training for the paralegal career field, but with 42% listed as having a college degree or higher. This figure is consistent with our graduate population, which is about 40% BA students.

Locally
In 2008, the South Carolina Department of Commerce estimated that the the BLS estimates that through 2016 and additional 1448 paralegals will be needed in this state. The average wage is $39,080.  (Please note this information is an average, not a starting salary.)

Job Placement
Job postings continue to be strong with excellent students obtaining excellent jobs. In this field, weak students have difficulty finding jobs, but graduates who have worked hard and gotten good grades are rewarded with interesting jobs with competitive salaries.
