Department Head Mike Holub | Michael.Holub@gvltec.edu | (864) 250-8441Power up your career and fill one of the many positions waiting in the diesel industry.
Fortune magazine has listed diesel/heavy transportation as one of the top five industries for future employment growth.
The future employment opportunities in the Diesel mechanics field are promising, with opportunities in fields such as fleet maintenance, power generation, marine repair and truck dealerships. Employment is also very stable, with 86 percent of our graduates over the last 10 years remaining in the field.
This program provides students with an understanding of diesel equipment systems with emphasis on "over-the-road” trucks. Hands-on experience is an important part of the program and, combined with classroom instruction, gives you the solid service and repair skills you’ll need to make an easy transition to the workplace. You’ll learn about Diesel engines, Diesel equipment service and diagnosis, Diesel fuel systems, Power trains, Suspension and steering, Air brake systems, and Electrical systems.
Many students earn while they learn through the co-op program, which pairs the student with an employer, allowing the student to gain valuable hands-on experience during the program.
