Geomatics Technology graduates can become licensed in SC to practice surveying or use their skills in Graphical Information System (GIS) for mapping and analyzing geographical data as well as their skills in Global Positioning System (GPS). These technologies are used by businesses and government agencies to find the fastest route to their destinations and to analyze date and manage tax assessment issues.
Mission Statement
The Geomatics Technology Department will provide continued improvements to its program to insure local surveying and mapping industry is supplied with an adequate number and satisfactorily trained graduates.

This is a TAC of ABET-accredited program. Land surveying and GIS courses meet the course requirements a student needs to become a licensed surveyor in South Carolina.
GMT Educational Objectives:
GMT graduates will have the skills to meet the GMT needs of business and education partners.
GMT department will support the enrollment goals of the college by striving to increase enrollment in the department.
GMT program enrollment will be expanded by offering program courses in alternate means of delivery to accommodate student access to courses.

GMT department will work to improve student success as measured in graduation rate and student retention.
GMT department will provide improvements in learning by insuring that equipment and technology used in the department are state of the arts
GMT department will insure student success by improving advising and communication with GMT students.
GMT department will provide qualified faculty and enhance faculty development by providing and promoting professional development opportunities
GMT department will enhance financial support of the program by pursuing both grants and donation to the program.
GMT Assessment Criteria: The measurement of the success of the GMT Department to achieve its Educational Objective is by Annual Graduate and Employer Surveys which determine if GMT Graduates are either working in their chosen field or continuing their education.
Career Opportunities
Graduates will go to work for civil engineers, surveyors, municipalities, utility companies (telephone companies, water companies, power companies, gas companies), transportation-related companies (S.C. Department of Transportation), tax assessor's offices, and any type of business that deals with land management and decision making concerning land use.
