Do you want to attend classes to prepare for a career but have trouble reading and writing English at an academic level?

Greenville Technical College offers ESL (English as a Second Language)  classes at high-intermediate to advanced levels in Listening/Speaking, Grammar, Pronunciation, Reading and Writing. These classes will help you improve your English skills so that you can continue your career goals.

General information:

  • classes are 15 weeks long; all classes meet twice a week (3hrs/wk)
  • classes are offered in the mornings and evenings
  • NEW designated ESL computer lab for individual work on grammar, writing and pronunciation
  • tuition - Per credit hour: in-county resident = $183; out-of-county resident = $195; out-of-state/international = $334

The ESL classes at Greenville Technical College are at the intermediate to advanced levels. To register for classes you must follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Greenville Tech’s Admissions and Registration Center in McAlister Square (225 South Pleasantburg Dr., Greenville, 29607) and fill out an application.  Make sure you bring all your documentation, i.e. green card, passport, residency card, etc., or any other document that shows your status in the U.S.
  2. Complete the Declaration of Citizenship or Legal Presence Form and provide supportive documentation (current valid Visa, U.S. Passport, Resident Alien card, Certificate of Naturalization, U.S. Military ID, SC Driver’s License (most other state Driver’s license also accepted), U.S. Birth Certificate, or valid Refugee, Asylee or Parolee documentation. Original documents must be provided. Any documentation that does not include a current photo, must also be accompanied by a current photo ID.
  3. Take the placement test “ESL Compass” at the Testing Center located at McAlister Square(225 South Pleasantburg Dr., Greenville, 29607).  
    Cost:  free
    Hours of operation: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 8am-7pm; Wednesday 8am-5pm; Fridays 8am-1pm
  4. After taking the exam, call the ESL office to set up an appointment for advising (250-8396). Your advisor will help you choose the classes appropriate for your level and your schedule. Your advisor will register you for the classes.
