Firefighter-EMT Cadet Track

Greenville Technical College’s Fire Science Technology and Emergency Medical Technology departments have joined forces to answer a crucial skills gap requiring most firefighters to hold an EMT certification. This academic track was designed to provide the coursework in a format that can quickly deliver the educational qualifications for employment.

GTC is currently the only college in South Carolina to offer this educational option to achieve firefighter and EMT certification. Students enrolled in FST/EMT are eligible for financial aid, including SC Lottery Tuition Assistance, LIFE Scholarship, and the GI Bill.

The required courses enable students to test for three certifications, Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, and NREMT, within an 18-week time frame.

Also, a student may choose to complete three additional courses, which are available online, and earn a Fire Science Technician Certificate.

The course “roadmap” was developed out of conversations with local fire officials who have available jobs and not enough qualified applicants.

This hands-on, engaging program is offered during the fall semester. Classes for this accelerated 18-week program run Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day (excluding school holidays).
