Think of health care and you may think of the nurse, the doctor and the pharmacist. Yet that's just one small part of the health care picture. There's the ultrasound technician who presents you with the first picture of your child, the paramedic whose competent presence helps you make it through an accident, or the physical therapist assistant who helps you recover from a weekend game of basketball.
Think health care and think beyond the most obvious careers. In all there are over 200 health disciplines, so consider those who make a difference behind the scenes. Let's say you suffer an asthma attack. A Paramedic transports you to the hospital. In the emergency room, your paperwork begins under the guidance of the Health Information Management office. You're seen by a Respiratory Care Therapist. Your blood tests go to the Medical Lab Technician. A Patient Care Technician looks in on you. And you have x-rays with a Radiologic Technologist. In all, you've seen six different health care professionals before you ever come into contact with the nurse and doctor.
Think health care and you should think job security. These jobs aren't going to be shipped overseas, and with America's aging population, they're secure positions. Right now, the health professions are suffering from a critical manpower shortage, so when you gain the skills you need to qualify for these jobs, you'll have plenty to choose from.
Think health care, and think Greenville Tech. Your education begins in the classroom, where you learn from health care professionals with years of real world experience in your specialty area. From there, you apply what you've learned in clinical settings. Our participation in the new Greenville Healthcare Simulation Center where students from USC, Greenville Tech and USC Upstate will benefit from a new way of learning on life-like, computerized mannequins means that as you begin the hands-on component to your education, you learn in a safe environment before moving on with confidence to real patients.
