I received my Student Aid Report (SAR) by e-mail, and it has the information that I submitted on FAFSA, but it also shows something called an EFC. What is the EFC?

The expected family contribution (EFC) is what is used to determine type and amount of Financial Aid students qualify for. The total cost of attending college includes tuition, fees, books, supplies, other required materials, personal and living expenses, and allowable travel expenses. A student's computed financial need is the total cost of attending college minus the amount his or her family is expected to contribute.
