Ordering materials
Faculty and staff may recommend the purchase of books, videos, DVDs, and print and electronic periodicals.
Three methods of communicating a recommendation are available. Please pick the method that feels most comfortable and convenient to you. Please provide as much information as possible, including: author, title, ISBN, ISSN (for periodicals), publisher, edition, date, and price.
Use the Recommend purchase form to recommend titles for the Library's collection.
OR
- Complete a print order card and send it to the Acquisitions Assistant via campus mail. To request order cards, call Library Acquisitions at 8018 or email jill.hammond@gvltec.edu.
OR
- Send publishers' catalogs, book reviews, brochures, or a citation from a bibliography, etc., with specific items highlighted via interdepartmental mail to the Library, in care of Acquisitions. Please be sure publisher information and/or any information that might assist the Library in ordering the material is included.
Allocation of funds
Academic Departments may request a portion of the collection development budget be allocated to purchase materials to support specific curriculum and teaching needs.
- Faculty should contact the Head of Technical Services at 250-8320 for specific information regarding establishing a fund, ordering materials, etc.
- If the departmental fund is not spent by April 1, then the Library will use those funds to develop the collection in other areas.
Rush purchases
The Library understands that faculty and staff may need certain materials rush ordered.
- Rush orders are processed the same day the order is received.
- Factors beyond the Library's control (e.g. supplier out-of-stock) may impact delivery time.
- The item is cataloged and processed immediately when it is received.
- The requestor is then notified via telephone and e-mail.
Donation of materials
Faculty is invited to donate items to the library's collection.
- The decision to add donated items to the collection is based on the materials'
- Ability to add depth and breadth to the collection
- Support of curriculum needs
- Physical condition
- Age
- Gifts not added to the collection may be returned to the donor. If the donor does not wish to have the items returned, the items may be sold, given away, or discarded.
- The Library does not provide special processing (e.g. book plates).
- The Library reserves the right to decline donations.
