Library instruction
- Schedule library instruction for your students by submitting a request form.
- Designed to help students acquire skills, competencies, and confidence needed to become effective users and producers of information. Without library instruction, many students have only a limited understanding of research and/or resource possibilities.
- Instruction can be custom-designed to meet the needs of specific courses and research assignments.
- Instruction is held in a variety of places, including in room TR 152 near Computer Valley, in the Learning Center Classroom (Bldg 104), in the Library, or even in your classroom! This service is available for the Barton, Brashier, Greer, and Northwest Campuses.
- Please submit request at least two weeks prior to scheduled date.
Reserve materials
- Books, audio and visual materials, and copies of articles can be set aside for use by students in a particular course at the request of a faculty member. Reserve materials are shelved separately from the general collection and are organized by the instructor's last name.
- Reserve items are usually pulled from the Library's collection. Instructors may also bring in personal items for temporary placement in the reserve collection.
- Faculty decide how long an item remains in the reserve materials collection.
- Faculty decide the length of circulation and/or if items should be in-house use only.
- To request that an item be placed on reserve, please visit the Circulation Desk or contact the Library at 250-8319.
- Note: Items are removed from the reserve shelf at the end of the current semester. Please contact the Library at 250-8319 to request that items remain on the reserve shelf for the following semester.
Borrowing privileges
- Faculty/staff are not charged for overdue materials.
- Faculty/staff must pay replacement costs if an item is lost or damaged.
- Faculty/staff may borrow reference materials on an "as needed basis" for a limited time period.
- Faculty/staff may borrow print periodicals for a 5-day checkout period. This excludes the most current issue of a print periodical, which may not be checked out.
- Interlibrary Loan services may be used to obtain materials not owned by the Greenville Technical College Library. This service is free and requires a library card.
- Materials may also be borrowed directly from any South Carolina academic library by obtaining a South Carolina Borrowers Forum (SCBF) card from the Circulation Desk. The SCBF card is separate from the GTC library card.
Printing and photocopying
- Faculty/staff are not charged for printing or photocopying work-related materials.
- Use of the printers requires a valid ID.
- The Circulation Desk staff is available to provide further assistance and information regarding use of the photocopier and printers.
