The Mathematics Department is comprised of faculty members who enjoy what they do and put student success first. Whether they're teaching one of the basic courses or a higher level math course, you'll receive plenty of attention from instructors who care about your progress.
The department operates Math Centers at each campus to provide extra assistance so that you never have to fall behind or get frustrated with an assignment. No appointment is required; just drop in for the help you need. Hours for the term are posted at each location: Barton Campus, in the Arts and Sciences Learning Center, Building 104 Room 131; Brashier Campus, locations vary depending on instructors' schedules, see Corrie Wiley (Building 201 Room 230) or Judy Walden (Building 201 Room 225A) for information; Greer Campus, Building 301 Room 203; and Northwest Campus, Room 113. Various supplemental texts, access to computer software, and cables for calculator downloads are also available.
The department offers courses numbered MAT 102 and above; the Department of Developmental Studies also offers MAT 031, 032 and 101.
Online course offerings include MAT 102, 103, 109, 120, and 155.
Many courses require or recommend a specific calculator. The Mathematics Department offers college skills courses that focus on the use of the TI-83/84 calculator family or the TI-89 calculator. Each course runs for 15 hours and is worth one credit hour. COL 108 109 focuses on using the TI-83/84 in MAT 109, College Algebra with Modeling. COL 108 120 focuses on using the TI-83/84 in MAT 120, Probability and Statistics. COL 108 110 focuses on using the TI-89 in MAT 110, College Algebra.
Placement into mathematics courses is determined by the COMPASS or ASSET placement exam, SAT Math or ACT Math Scale score, or prerequisite coursework. Course prerequisite requirements are shown by flowchart.
