Training transfers to the classroom

Katrina CanadaKatrina Canada, a Criminal Investigator with the Spartanburg Police Department, learned about Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) through her GTC Criminal Justice Instructor, Brian Cranny. Katrina, who holds a Class I Law Enforcement certification through the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy, was able to “test out” of Defensive Tactics for Law Enforcement, a required course in her Associate of Applied Science Criminal Justice degree.

“PLA allowed me to put more emphasis on other criminal justice related courses, and it also helped me obtain the credits needed for graduation and to even graduate early.”

After receiving her degree in 2013, she earned a B.A. in criminal justice from Limestone College. She plans to continue her career path in law enforcement and further her education through continued career development training.
