Manufacturing is alive and well in the Upstate of South Carolina, but manufacturing jobs have changed. Once thought of as low-skilled, dirty work, manufacturing jobs now require advanced training and involve operating robots and high tech machinery.

To meet the demand for technically trained workers in our area, Greenville Technical College will soon offer a Production Technology Associate I certificate, designed to provide students with the knowledge necessary for employment as entry level production technicians for manufacturing companies.

This program will open with limited enrollment in Spring 2012, so contact us quickly to ensure your spot in this exclusive opportunity.

Advantages

Completing this program will open many doors to advance within manufacturing, improving your long-term outlook. Classes will be held in the morning, so you’ll be finished in time for second shift or afternoon work schedules.

Plus, major manufacturers in our area, including BMW, will be recruiting from these students for the Tech Scholars program.

Students completing this program will:

  • identify the relevance and use of personal and plant-wide safety systems and programs that commonly apply to manufacturing systems. (Examples of knowledge would include PPE, Confined Space Entry, Atmospheric Hazards, Machine Guarding, and Lockout/tag out.)
  • identify the basic principles of industry standard manufacturing quality systems. (Examples: Six Sigma, SPC, TPM and Lean Manufacturing)
  • recognize and distinguish between common manufacturing processes. (Examples: Pick and Place, Assembly Line, Extrusion, Stamping, Injection Molding and Batch Process)
  • identify and demonstrate professional communications methods appropriate in a manufacturing environment.

Future plans include the addition of a second certificate, Production Technology Associate II, designed to provide students with the knowledge and comprehension to improve and manage a manufacturing process.
