Greenville Tech Foundation Scholarships

The Greenville Tech Foundation, Inc., was organized in 1973 as a non-profit corporation for the purpose of seeking community support for Greenville Technical College. Students should apply for scholarships before the May 1 deadline.

Lillian Simpson Scholarship

Greenville Technical College established the Lillian Simpson Scholarship to honor Miss Simpson's outstanding dedication to students in Greenville County. One scholarship is available to each of the 14 Greenville County public high schools. The scholarship has a value of up to $1,500 for an academic year upon maintenance of a "C" average. This scholarship is redeemable for three consecutive semesters at $500 per semester and covers partial tuition only.

Eligibility/Qualifications:

  • Applicant must be a Greenville County Schools senior who will complete high school in spring of the current school year and will attend Greenville Technical College starting either Summer Term or Fall Semester after graduation.
  • Applicant must be ranked in the top 50% of graduating class at the end of the seventh semester.
  • In order for the application to be considered, the following steps must be taken:
    • Submit Application for Admission to the Admissions Office.
    • Pay $35 admissions application fee.
    • Take Greenville Technical College placement examination or submit SAT scores of 480 or higher on the verbal, 480 or higher on the math or ACT Math and English scores of 19 or higher by March 29.
    • Submit a copy of state high school transcript.
  • Applicant should complete a portion of the scholarship application labeled Student Information.
  • A letter of recommendation must be received for the applicant from a teacher or counselor.

This award does not require completing a FAFSA, but it is highly recommended.

Lillian Simpson Scholarship Application

Laurel Scholarship

This tuition scholarship, with a value of up to $1,500 for an academic year upon maintenance of a "C" average, will be awarded to one graduating student from each qualifying private school* in Greenville County. This scholarship is redeemable for three consecutive semesters and covers partial tuition only.

Eligibility/Qualifications:

  • Applicant must be ranked in the top 50% of his/her graduating class at the end of the seventh semester.
  • A recommendation should be completed and signed by the student's principal or senior counselor and sent to Greenville Tech's Financial Aid Office by March 29.
  • The student selected for the scholarship must have applied and received acceptance into a curriculum program of his or her choice. Prior to selection, the following steps must be completed by the student:
    • Submit Application for Admission to the Admissions Office.
    • Pay $35 Admissions Application Fee.
    • Take Greenville Technical College placement examination or submit SAT scores of 480 or higher on the verbal, 480 or higher on the math or ACT Math & English scores 19 or higher by March 29.
    • Submit a copy of state high school transcript with application.
  • A Greenville Tech representative will present the scholarship at your awards program. We ask that the winner be present to receive his/her award.

This award does not require completing a FAFSA, but it is highly recommended.

*Qualifications for Private Schools:
School must have publicly available policy on nondiscrimination. The school must offer equal access to education and employment opportunities to all, regardless of sex, race, religion, color, national origin or handicap.

The Laurel Scholarship Application

Business Education Dept Scholarship

Tuition scholarships, with a value of $1,500 for an academic year upon maintenance of a "C" average, will be awarded to one graduating student from each of the high schools in Greenville County Schools who has or will enroll in a Business Division program at Greenville Technical College. These scholarships are redeemable for three consecutive semesters at $500 per semester and cover partial tuition only.

Eligibility/Qualifications:

  • Each student selected for the scholarship must have applied and received acceptance to a Business Division program of his or her choice. Prior to selection, the following steps must be completed by the student:
    • Submit Application for Admission to the Admissions Office.
    • Pay $35 Admissions Application Fee.
    • Take Greenville Technical College placement examination or submit SAT scores of 480 or higher on the verbal, 480 or higher on the math or ACT Math & English scores 19 or higher by March 29.
    • Submit copy of state high school transcript with application.
  • A letter of recommendation must be received for the applicant from a teacher or counselor.
  • Students receiving this award may not combine it with the Lillian Simpson or Vocational Technical Scholarships.
  • A Greenville Tech representative will present the scholarship at your awards program. We ask that the winner be present to receive his/her award.

This award does not require completing a FAFSA, but it is highly recommended.

Business Scholarship Application

LIFE Scholarship

South Carolina LIFE Scholarship - Legislative Incentives for Future Excellence

Eligibility for this state scholarship is determined by academic merit. This award does not require completing a FAFSA, but it is highly recommended.

Entering freshmen requirements include the following:

  • Must be a South Carolina resident.
  • Must be a South Carolina high school graduate.
  • Must have a 3.0 high school grade point average on a 4.0 scale calculated under the South Carolina Uniform Grading Policy (SCUGP). 
  • Must have no felony convictions.
  • Must have no drug or alcohol convictions in preceding 12 months/calendar year.
  • Must be a full-time undergraduate student in an eligible program.
  • Must take 12 non-developmental credits (100-level and below course are developmental).

Additional requirements for continuing or transfer students include the following:

  • Must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA (all colleges attended).
  • Must have completed a minimum of 30 curriculum credit hours in prior academic year (15 credit hours, if enrollment started in January).
  • Must have no felony, drug or alcohol convictions in preceding 12 months/calendar year.

The Life Scholarship is the cost of 30 credit hours tuition, plus a $300 annual book allowance (not to exceed the scholarship maximum of $5000 @ $2500 per semester). Life Scholarships are available for the following:

  • One-year diploma/certificate program = two semesters.
  • Two-year degree = four semesters.
  • Four-year degree = eight semesters.

LIFE Scholars will be identified by the Financial Aid Office.
