TUTORIAL PROGRAM

The Tutorial Program of Student Support Services provides tutoring services free of charge to eligible project participants.  We offer one-on-one and small group tutoring.  SSS tutoring requires a semester-long commitment to regularly scheduled appointments.

Tutoring Hours
Regularly scheduled appointments are held twice a week.  Students are scheduled on both Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday for one hour each day. Tutoring sessions are offered Monday thru Thursday from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm.

Tutoring Courses
The subjects offered are usually general education requirement classes and vary depending on student need and the availability of tutors.

Application Process
In order for project participants to receive tutoring on the Barton Campus, the student must be enrolled in the class on the Barton Campus.

  1. Application forms for tutorial services provided by SSS may be obtained at either of our offices on the Barton Campus, Building 105 the Student Center Building:

    Room 206
    8:00 am - 6:00 pm Mon-Thurs
    8:00 am - 1:00 pm Fri

    Room 234
    9:00 am - 1:00 pm Mon - Thurs

  2. At the time an application is distributed, the staff person who dispenses a beige colored application instructs the student to do the following:

      (a) Read and complete the application and sign it in the appropriate places

      (b) Obtain his/her instructor's signature and a description of the student's       academic weaknesses in the given course.

  3. The student should return with the completed application. During this meeting, the Tutor Coordinator will review the application, decide which tutor will be assigned to work with the student, and direct the student to meet the tutor.

Participant Responsibilities
Participants of the Tutorial Program of Student Support Services at Greenville Technical College should be aware of the following responsibilities:

  1. You are ultimately responsible for your success or failure in classes.
  2. In keeping with that premise, you are required to come prepared for your tutoring session by identifying areas of focus, and bringing relevant textbooks, syllabi, material and assignments to each tutoring session.
  3. Also, you are responsible for reporting to your tutoring session(s) promptly.
  4. Moreover, you are to be courteous during the tutoring session.  Failure to behave in a courteous manner may forfeit the opportunity to be tutored for the rest of the semester.
  5. If you are unable to attend, you will notify the Student Support Services office to cancel the session at least two (2) hours prior to the scheduled appointment.
  6. You understand that tutoring is a semester-long commitment requiring good attendance.
  7. You understand that if you miss two or more sessions without prior cancellation, frequently cancel appointments, drop the class in which you are being tutored or are no longer enrolled at Greenville Technical College, you will forfeit your opportunity to be tutored for the remainder of the semester.
  8. In the event that your enrollment status changes, you must inform the Student Support Services staff of this change.
  9. If you are dropped from tutoring, you can file an appeal with the Tutor Coordinator to be considered for reinstatement.
  10. Further, depending on availability, your originally scheduled appointment may not be available and another time slot may be assigned.
