Access
& Equity Grant
The Access & Equity Grant is
given through the Commission on Higher Education. Their vision is to
achieve educational equity in higher education. This means that success in
college should not be affected adversely by a student's race. They believe
that minority enrollment should be proportional to minority population in
South Carolina.
Progress in the recruitment and retention of minority students is a top priority
for the Commission on Higher Education.
The
purpose for Access & Equity is to recruit and retain minority students at
Greenville Technical
College through using the resources and
funds provided by the Commission on Higher Education.
There is a Returning
Student Scholarship in which to qualify you have to have at least a 2.5 GPA, be
of minority background and returning to Greenville Technical College the following
semester.
The Dr. Brister’s Minority Leadership
Scholars Program selects 20 minority students with a GPA of 2.8 or higher to attend 4
workshops with community leaders conducting the workshops. The workshops are a great arena
for the students to network and get to know city officials and other high
profile local citizens and interact with one another that they, otherwise, would
not get the opportunity to do so. They learn a lot about other professions
and how to find and get the opportunities that they are looking for out in the
workforce.
