Introducing Adventure Tech at Greenville Tech! 

Summer day camps in STEM & culinary education for 11-14 year olds

Pre-teens and young teens in Greenville County can explore career pathways at Greenville Technical College beginning this summer. The new Adventure Tech day camps will feature STEM and culinary education. Registration begins February 26, 2018.

Rising 6th through 8th graders are invited to explore these fun, hands-on learning experiences taught by leaders in the field:

  • STEM & Manufacturing Camp at Center for Manufacturing Innovation (CMI)
    2-day sessions, Mondays and Tuesdays
    • Introduction to 3D Printing & Design
    • Computer Controlled Machining
    • Automation & Robots
    • Virtual and Robotic Welding
  • Culinary Camp at Northwest Campus
    2-day sessions, Wednesdays and Thursdays
    • Prep Like a Chef
    • Intro to Baking and Pastry
    • Fun Comfort Foods

Each camp session, which will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., is offered in a way that students can choose their own adventure - combining culinary skills with STEM skills or focusing on one topic and building a full summer schedule. Read more about each below.

Cost is $129 per child per STEM & Manufacturing Camp session. Cost for a 2-day Culinary Camp session is $139 and includes lunch, which the child will prepare during the camp day.

Camp Sessions, Dates & Curriculum

Prep Like A Chef (June 13-14 & July 11-12)

Day 1 - Learn knife skills and safety, safe food handling and grilling & chillin’! Learn the basics of making the best grilled foods.
Day 2 – Learn about food tastes and flavors, discover Red-hot Roasting and jump into the heat and learn the classic techniques of sauté.

Intro to Baking and Pastry (June 20-21 & July 18-19)

Day 1 – Learn the science of baking including proper measurement, take a trip to cookie paradise (a variety to taste, take and share with family) and make your own pizza for lunch!
Day 2 – Learn how to make loaf bread and buns, including your own sandwich for lunch. Then, mix, scoop, bake and decorate cupcakes and make soft pretzels to take home.

Fun Comfort Foods (June 27-28 & July 25-26)

Day 1 – Comfort Foods of the South. Enjoy the trick to making Southern Fried Chicken, from-scratch mac and cheese and your favorite veggies. We’ll also try our hand at Burgers Across the USA and make some “nanner puddin’”.
Day 2 – 3 Meals a Day. Make your brunch favorites (pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs any style) and learn how to prepare the Best Box Lunch in Town and take your box lunch home to enjoy. 

3D Printing and Design (June 11-12 & July 9-10)

Campers will use computer aided design to bring concepts to life while learning about additive manufacturing. They will design, print and assemble their projects and see a variety of 3D printers to execute their designs. Students come home with their projects.

Computer Controlled Machining (June 18-19)

Bring math to life! Design with precise calculations and program machines to cut metal. Students will safely experience industry-grade equipment like those that assemble high-end cars and instruments. 

Automation & Robotics (June 25-26 & July 23-24)

Learn the basics of robots and their growing role in Greenville County. Campers will electronically control and troubleshoot robots as well as work on safe and simple electronic projects that they can take home. Boy and Girl scouts are welcome to earn their merit badges through these two fun days.

Virtual and Robotic Welding (July 16-17)

Program a robotic welder!  Use our safe virtual welder to learn real welding techniques without the need for protection.  Students are given real-time feedback to teach them the basics of different types of welding.  Fun and safe for middle schoolers.
