Want to change gears quickly? Greenville Technical College wants to help you get a job or a better position quickly.
New technologies are impacting the field, especially for long-distance truck drivers. Satellites and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) provide instant information to drivers and dispatchers. Greenville Technical College provides a strong knowledge base in the latest technologies along with extensive hands-on experience so that you feel comfortable and confident from your first day on the job.
Truck drivers deliver everything from automobiles to canned foods. Firms of all types rely on trucks for pickup and delivery of goods since no other form of transportation can deliver goods door to door.
Local Opportunities
Truck drivers and driver/sales workers hold more than 22,000 jobs in our area, with growth expected to continue.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN IN THE PROGRAM
State and federal regulations govern the qualifications and standards for truck drivers. The CDL Training: Class A Truck driver training curriculum provides students with training to inspect and operate tractor-trailers and to assume driver responsibilities on the road and at pickup/delivery points. Emphasis is placed on vehicle inspections, defensive driving, range maneuvers, motor carrier safety regulations (DOT 380 -397 and a certificate for entry level drivers), trip planning, cargo handlings, size/weight laws, general maintenance procedures, hours of service, and accident prevention.
State and federal regulations dictate that drivers of trucks designed to carry 26,000 pounds or more must obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) from the state of residence. Once you complete the program, you may qualify for a Class A CDL by passing the written test and demonstrating safe operation of a commercial truck.
