$0 Tuition Scholarship FAQ

• Produce a highly skilled workforce by reducing the cost of higher education and lowering student loan debt
• Increase the percentage of people with a certificate, diploma, or degree and increase accessibility to higher education in South Carolina 

• Tuition (including the technology and enrollment fees) will be covered for GTC students enrolled in a certificate, diploma or degree program.

• Register for classes for the 2023 Spring Semester (New students must complete Admissions and Enrollment steps)
• Submit the 2022-2023 FAFSA to GTC OR, if you meet the criteria, submit a FAFSA waiver form
• Regularly check Self Service for Financial Aid located in GTC4me to ensure your financial aid file is complete by submitting all required forms and documents so you can receive these funds

Eligibility review:

• 2022 Fall Students with a submitted 22-23 FAFSA that is complete with GTC will begin to be reviewed by mid-August 2022 after all 2022 Summer grades have posted and will continue throughout the Fall term.
• 2023 Spring Student eligibility review will begin after 2022 Fall grades post the week of December 12, 2022.
• In order to be reviewed for funding eligibility, GTC students must also have a cumulative 2.0 GTC GPA as is required to receive scholarship funding. (This does not apply to new students who have never had a previous academic record at GTC)
  • Students meeting both of these requirements will NOT be purged

Student Notification:

• Eligible students will be notified of eligibility via GTC email. This email will contain a link to complete the required certification form electronically.

Awarding:

• $0 Tuition funds, along with all other forms of Financial Aid, will begin applying to 2022 Fall balances the last week of September 2022. 2023 Spring aid will begin awarding February 13, 2023. Financial aid automatically applies to awards that the student has accepted in their Self Service account.
  • $0 Tuition awards apply if there is a tuition balance AFTER all other Federal and State grants and scholarships are applied: Pell Grant, FSEOG, Other Federal Grants, SC Lottery Tuition Assistance/SC WINS/SC LIFE scholarship/SC Workforce Pathways, etc. If no tuition balance remains after aid has paid, a student will not receive funding from the $0 Tuition Scholarship.

2022 Fall & 2023 Spring: Students must be a high school graduate or GED recipient, be enrolled in a certificate, diploma or degree program, and have a minimum institutional GTC GPA of 2.0, and submit the 2022-2023 FAFSA to GTC OR if you meet criteria, submit a FAFSA waiver form in order to be awarded. Awards are made based on the student's currently listed major.

• • Make sure your financial aid file is complete by submitting all required forms and documents so you can receive these funds

All recipients must complete the $0 Tuition Scholarship certification form and meet ONE of the following State of South Carolina requirements:

• be employed full-time or part-time (self-employment is permitted) OR
• take a financial literacy course* OR
• complete 100 hours of volunteer time with a non-profit or public service organization (See "Where can I find volunteer opportunities to meet the requirement?")

*A financial literacy course can be completed using the link on the certification form you will sign for this scholarship.  The Access Code to the course is GTC4ME.

Many volunteer opportunities are available in the community and are offered at the college each spring and fall through Greenville Tech Gives Back. Find opportunities through the following resources or contact other agencies in the area to inquire about volunteering:

Eligible students who have paid money toward their tuition will be refunded by the Bursar’s Office after Financial Aid begins applying, approximately 30 days after courses begin.
