3-13 Hazing Prevention Policy

Rationale and Purpose

Greenville Technical College is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all students. Hazing in any form is strictly prohibited. This policy and associated procedures outline the definitions, prohibitions, procedures, and consequences related to hazing activities.

Policy Statement

"Hazing" means the wrongful striking, laying open hand upon, threatening with violence, or offering to do bodily harm by a superior student to a subordinate student with intent to punish or injure the subordinate student, or other unauthorized treatment by the superior student of a subordinate student of a tyrannical, abusive, shameful, insulting, or humiliating nature. Hazing in any form will not be tolerated, and appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct against any individuals or groups found in violation of this policy.

Scope

This policy includes all student organizations recognized by the Greenville Technical College as well as any unofficial student group of two or more people operating as clubs, organizations, societies, associations, and SGA.  Student groups and individual students should not condone or engage in any hazing activity.

Roles/Responsibilities

Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to report any suspected hazing activities immediately. See procedures for reporting point of contact(s). Upon receiving a report of hazing, Greenville Technical College will conduct a prompt, thorough, and impartial investigation in compliance with the disciplinary procedures as outlined in the official Greenville Technical College Code of Conduct.

Non-Compliance

Failure to comply with/follow this policy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
