Federal Grants

This federally funded grant pays education costs for eligible undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's or professional degree. Amounts vary depending on eligibility. The FAFSA determines the exact eligibility based on the Student Aid Index (SAI).

Requirements to receive a Federal Pell Grant include the following:

• Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
• Must have submitted a high school diploma or GED certificate to GTC Admissions.
• Must be admitted into a program consisting of at least 16 credit hours.
• Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress.
• Must not have a bachelor's degree or higher degree.
• If a student chooses to take a course outside of his/her major, the course cannot be used in determining Pell Grant eligibility.
• Federal financial aid, including Pell grants, will only pay for a maximum of 30 transitional/remedial credit hours. A list of transitional/remedial courses can be found in the GTC student catalog and handbook.

Students can receive the Pell grant for a maximum of 12 full time semesters or 600% (roughly 6 years of school).

Year-round Pell is available for students enrolling in the summer semester.

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is for undergraduates with exceptional financial need (students with the lowest EFCs) and gives priority to students who receive Federal Pell Grants.

Requirements to receive an FSEOG include the following:

• Must be eligible for a Federal Pell Grant and have an EFC between 0-200.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
• Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
• Must be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours in a valid program consisting of at least 16 credit hours.
• Must not have a bachelor's degree or higher degree.
• If a student chooses to take a course outside of his/her major, the course cannot be used in determining Pell Grant eligibility.
• Federal financial aid, including Pell grants, will only pay for a maximum of 30 transitional/remedial credit hours. A list of transitional/remedial courses can be found in the GTC student catalog and handbook.
