South Carolina Lottery Tuition Assistance (SCLTA)

Important notes about your Lottery Tuition Assistance award:

S.C. Lottery Tuition Assistance is applied to tuition and required fees of all students.
- Required fees are the Student and Technology fee only.
- Books, all-inclusive charges, and course-related fees are not covered.
If you receive sufficient federal or state grants that cover your cost of tuition, then funds provided by the S.C. Educational Lottery will not be applied to your account. Students can receive a combination of grants and S.C. Lottery Tuition Assistance; however, the amount applied to one's account will never exceed the cost of tuition.
In order to receive S.C. Lottery Tuition Assistance for a designated semester, a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or FAFSA Waiver Form must be submitted.

To be considered eligible for SCLTA, a student:

Must be a South Carolina resident
Must complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or FAFSA waiver form
Must be admitted in a certificate, diploma, or associate degree program
Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours
Must maintain a 2.0 GPA after attempting 24 credit hours
Must demonstrate progression if they have received a certificate, degree, or associate degree during the last 5 years
Cannot owe a refund or repayment of a state grant, Federal Pell Grant, or FSEOG
Cannot be in default on student loans
Cannot be a LIFE Scholarship recipient

If a student fails to meet the requirements for Lottery funding, they may consider submitting an appeal. The lottery appeal opens on the first day that the full semester begins, and ends the last day of class of the full term prior to exams starting. Enrolled students can access the appeal process by going to their Self Service for Financial Aid account (login required).

SCLTA PROGRESSION

Students can only receive S.C. Lottery funds to earn one certificate, diploma, or degree in a five-year period. The exception is: if any additional certificate, diploma, or degree you want to pursue is determined to be "progression in the same field of study" by the college. See some examples below:

Certificate earned = Welding - "Progression" could be enrollment in an advanced Welding certificate or diploma; or any School of Aviation, Construction & Transportation degree
Diploma earned = Surgical Technology - "Progression" could be enrollment in Associate Degree Nursing or other School of Health Sciences degree
Certificate earned = Web Design or Networking - "Progression" could be enrollment in Computer Technology degree
