The African American Male Scholars Initiative (AAMSI) is an innovative initiative designed to increase academic success rates by providing intensive case management and personalized support services that help participants overcome barriers, develop academic and career pathways, and graduate on time.

SERVICES FOR STUDENTS

AAMSI provides participants with the following services and activities:

    • One-on-one academic support
    • Direct referrals to campus resources
    • Lunch and Learn sessions
    • Peer connections and fellowship
    • Tutoring
    • Mental health awareness and support
    • FAFSA assistance
    • Four-year college tours
    • Mentoring
    • Life coaching workshops
    • Professional development and networking opportunities
    • Educational and cultural enrichment activities
    • Financial literacy education
    • Podcast creation
    • AAMSI student lounge
    • Year-end celebration

ELIGIBILITY

The AAMSI program was initiated to increase the academic success of GTC's Black male students. A prospective AAMSI scholar must be a student at GTC. Other criteria may be considered for admission into the program.

Since I joined AAMSI, I'm definitely more confident in using the resources that the campus has to provide. When I first applied at Greenville Tech, I honestly didn't know how I was going to make it through. But thankfully, AAMSI taught me how to get a good foundation on what being a college student really is and how to take advantage of the things that are out there for me.
