On September 11, students and staff at Greenville Technical College packed goody boxes for soldiers to go to an army unit from South Carolina that has been deployed to South Korea. There are 50 soldiers in this unit, and 15 are female, so the boxes created were gender specific. Included were hygiene supplies along with snacks and games. Those participating in the project included student and employee veterans.
Following the project, lunch was served to participants with a program remembering those lost on 9/11/01.
The effort was sponsored by the TD Charitable Foundation, the giving arm of TD Bank, which provided funding for the supplies and is also supporting the college’s Financial Literacy Week in October, MLK Day of Service in January, and Money Smart event in April.
